The Ungenerous Me!

The Ungenerous Me!

I left in the midst of the class that day,
When I was not feeling well.

The sun shone bright and dry was the hay.

Worse was my situation which I can't spell.

Upon my arrival to the station,

I saw the train so full, so crushed.

I hoped for a seat with such a bad condition;

But the uncourteous crowd gave me a push.

Throughout the journey I was standing,

With tired legs in the crowded bogie.

I can't explain how bad was I feeling.

And then the train stopped with a noise too creaky.

Soon I arrived at the railway canteen and ordered a drink,

I got the drink and also some change,

Just then a poor boy came there begging;

I offered a rupee to the boy from my change.

The unseen eyes that begged at the shop,

The shopkeeper drew him away without mercy.

Seeing his condition even worse, my body gave me a pop;

I felt better when I had on him some pity.

Let the shopkeeper go to hell,

But what about the ungenerous me?

Though I had my wallet filled so well.

Still today I think why didn't I offer him more than a rupee?
